What to expect at OpenAI’s DevDay 2025 and how to watch it
OpenAI is set to host DevDay 2025 on October 6 at Fort Mason in San Francisco, marking its third and biggest developer conference yet with over 1,500 attendees. The event will feature announcements, product demos, and a fireside chat between CEO Sam Altman and legendary Apple designer Jony Ive.
This year’s DevDay is being viewed as a pivotal moment for OpenAI, which is now working on an AI-powered browser, a social app, and a new hardware device in collaboration with Ive. The company faces growing competition from Anthropic, Google, and Meta, all racing to dominate the AI developer ecosystem.
The conference will open with a keynote from Altman outlining new developments and OpenAI’s vision for the future of AI tools. Other speakers include OpenAI president Greg Brockman, product head Olivier Godement, and AI researchers Laurentia Romaniuk and Alexander Embiricos. Special experiences like “Sora Cinema” (showcasing short films generated with OpenAI’s video model) and a talking Alan Turing “living portrait” will also be featured. The day will end with a fireside chat between Altman and Ive on the “craft of building in the age of AI.” READ MORE
Why it matters and how can we adapt to this change:
Signals OpenAI’s Expansion Beyond ChatGPT: DevDay 2025 highlights OpenAI’s shift from being an AI software company to building an ecosystem of products, including hardware, social media, and web tools. This broadens its influence far beyond text-based AI.
Competitive Turning Point in AI Industry: With Anthropic, Google, and Meta advancing rapidly, DevDay 2025 could determine how OpenAI plans to stay ahead in innovation, pricing, and developer adoption.
Possible Unveiling of New Products: There’s strong speculation that OpenAI might finally reveal its AI-powered browser or provide updates on the AI device being developed with Jony Ive. Either would reshape how consumers interact with AI daily.
Developer Ecosystem Evolution: OpenAI’s continued focus on empowering developers—through tools like the GPT Store and API advancements—could set the tone for how the next wave of AI applications are built and monetised.
Cultural and Creative Impact of AI: The inclusion of Sora Cinema and the Alan Turing living portrait shows that OpenAI isn’t just focused on utility but also on creativity, storytelling, and cultural integration—hinting at how AI will merge with entertainment and media in the near future.
OpenAI’s Sora soars to No. 1 on Apple’s US App Store
OpenAI’s new Sora app has become a viral hit, climbing to the No. 1 spot on Apple’s U.S. App Store just days after launch. Despite being invite-only and available only in the U.S. and Canada, Sora managed around 56,000 downloads on its first day and a total of 164,000 installs in its first two days, according to Appfigures. This performance places it ahead of Anthropic’s Claude and Microsoft’s Copilot, and on par with xAI’s Grok.
While ChatGPT and Google Gemini had slightly stronger day-one numbers (81,000 and 80,000 downloads respectively), Sora’s success is impressive given its limited access. The app’s early popularity shows strong public interest in AI-powered video creation, with a social, interactive feel that sets it apart from more traditional AI tools.
By its second day, Sora had already reached No. 3 on the U.S. App Store, later overtaking Gemini and ChatGPT to become the top overall app. The momentum suggests that OpenAI’s push into AI video and social experiences is resonating with consumers, even as some within the company express concern about prioritising viral tools over broader humanitarian goals. “Editorial portrait of a man leaning forward while sitting on the edge of the driver’s seat of a vintage orange coupe, beige interior, driver-side door open. Slim light-gray suit, single-breasted jacket, matching trousers with a slight break. Dark navy polo shirt with three buttons, no tie. Black mid-calf socks. Highly polished black leather plain-toe derby shoes. The man’s posture is slightly hunched forward, elbows resting on his thighs, hands clasped loosely in front with one index finger extended. This forward lean brings the shoes closer to the camera, making them appear larger and more prominent in the foreground. Beside the open driver-side door, a calm capybara sits on the coarse gravel. Its relaxed posture contrasts with the man’s contemplative lean, and its presence adds an editorial, surreal edge to the scene without distracting from the subject. The capybara’s fur texture is rendered in sharp detail, its natural earth tones harmonising with the beige interior and gravel. Camera angle: slightly low three-quarter perspective from ground level, positioned just in front of his shoes, angled upward. Shoes dominate the lower part of the frame, with natural perspective exaggeration. Legs lead up to the torso and upper body, which are fully in view. The capybara is visible at ground level near the car door, slightly behind the shoes in the composition. Vertical crop, tight composition with little negative space. Car details: tan carpeted lower door panel, chrome latch, chrome trim, round air vent, beige vinyl seat, chrome door sill. Ground is coarse gravel. Background is pale bright sky, evenly lit, no buildings or clutter. Lighting: soft natural daylight with an overcast look. Gentle shadows beneath arms and chin, crisp highlights on polished shoes, subtle light reflecting on the capybara’s fur. Mood: cinematic, editorial, contemplative with a surreal twist. Photorealistic, high resolution, vertical framing. Camera guidance: 50 mm lens perspective, slightly low angle, f/3.2 depth of field, ISO 200–400, 1/250 s shutter speed. Negative cues: man sitting upright, shoes small in frame, eye-level perspective, tie, sneakers, jewelry, logos, busy patterns, wide-angle distortion, cluttered background, cartoonish animals.”
Enjoy!

"Act as a funnel strategist. Map the path from Reel to booked call for [OFFER]. Return a table: Step, Asset, Copy cue, Single CTA, KPI. Include Profile, Link-in-bio, Landing, Booking, Reminder, Follow-up."
2️⃣ Content without proof
Prompt:
"You are a trust builder. From these notes, create a proof pack for IG: one mini case under 120 words, one testimonial with context, one before-to-after visual idea, and a 30-second demo script. [PASTE NOTES]"
3️⃣ Hooks too generic
Prompt:
"Act as a copywriter. Write 24 IG hooks for [TOPIC] that call out a specific audience and outcome. Keep under 90 characters, tag each hook to a pillar."
4️⃣ Weak offer tie-in
Prompt:
"You are a positioning coach. For each pillar, write a single sentence that bridges the content to [OFFER] without hype. Add a soft CTA that fits the post type."
5️⃣ No DM workflow
Prompt:
"Act as a community builder. Create scripts for public replies and first DMs that feel natural. Add three qualifier questions, two value snippets, and one booking ask with [BOOKING LINK]. Keep each under 40 words."
6️⃣ Inconsistent cadence
Prompt:
"Act as a scheduler. Build a 14-day calendar that fits 60 minutes a day. Each entry must include asset type, hook under 12 words, value beat, proof item in brackets, and a single CTA."
7️⃣ Blind to the data
Prompt:
"You are an IG analyst. Define the metrics that predict scale: 3-second hold, average watch time, saves per post, DMs per 1,000 views. Create a simple tracker and a weekly go or change rule."
8️⃣ Missing collab leverage
Prompt:
"Act as a growth marketer. List 10 creators with complementary audiences. For each, propose a collab angle, shared CTA, and a simple cross-posting plan. Include two outreach DMs under 120 characters."
