Google releases Veo 3.1, adds it to Flow video editor

Google has launched Veo 3.1, its upgraded AI video generation model, and added it to the Flow video editor. The new version brings better audio output, more detailed editing controls, and improved image-to-video generation. Building on the earlier Veo 3 model, it produces more realistic clips and follows prompts more precisely. Users can now insert new objects that match the video’s style, and Google plans to soon allow object removal. The update also adds audio to existing features like extending clips or generating videos from reference images and keyframes. Veo 3.1 is now available across Flow, the Gemini App, and Google’s Vertex and Gemini APIs. Since Flow’s launch in May, users have already created more than 275 million videos, showing strong demand for accessible AI video tools. READ MORE

Here are 5 reasons why it matters:

  • Greater creative flexibility: Veo 3.1 lets users fine-tune and edit videos directly, including adding or soon removing elements.

  • Improved realism and quality: Enhanced visual and audio generation make AI-produced videos more lifelike and professional.

  • End-to-end AI production: Integrating Veo 3.1 into Flow and Gemini makes video creation seamless, from concept to final edit.

  • Scalability and adoption: With over 275 million videos made, Google is positioning Flow as a major hub for AI-generated content.

  • Competitive edge in AI media: The update helps Google stay ahead of rivals like OpenAI’s Sora by offering a publicly accessible, integrated video creation tool.

OpenAI pauses Sora video generations of Martin Luther King Jr.

OpenAI has paused the ability to generate AI videos of Martin Luther King Jr. in its Sora platform after his estate raised concerns about disrespectful and offensive depictions. The company said the safeguard was added to respect the wishes of public figures and their families regarding likeness use. This decision follows reports of users creating inappropriate videos of Dr. King, as well as other historical figures like Malcolm X, Bob Ross, and Whitney Houston. Sora, launched only weeks earlier, allows users to create realistic AI-generated videos of real people, sparking debate over ethics, consent, and copyright in AI-generated media. OpenAI has since introduced more restrictions, giving copyright holders greater control over how their likeness is used. The controversy highlights the challenges of balancing free expression, technology innovation, and respect for personal and cultural legacies in AI-generated content. READ MORE

“A surreal, high-fashion editorial portrait of a young male model inside a futuristic elevator, styled in a black leather shirt layered with a bold plaid mesh vest. He wears translucent, angular sunglasses with a confident expression. Shot with a wide-angle lens for a dramatic, distorted perspective.

The entire scene is bathed in glowing Facebook blue and white tones. The lighting softly radiates from the elevator panels, creating a cinematic reflection across the model’s face. Subtle Facebook “f” logos are integrated into the light reflections and background textures, blending naturally into the environment rather than appearing as stickers or overlays.

The overall atmosphere feels modern, stylish, and tech-inspired, like a fashion ad for a digital world.”
