OpenAI delays the release of its open model, again

OpenAI has delayed the release of its highly anticipated open model indefinitely due to safety concerns. Initially expected this week, the model will now undergo further high-risk testing. CEO Sam Altman and VP of Research Aidan Clark emphasised the irreversible nature of open model weight releases and the need to meet a high standard before launch. The model, said to rival the capabilities of OpenAI's o-series, would allow developers to run it locally. • Shift in Public Expectations: This shows a shift in how users and the AI community think about transparency, control, and accessibility. The longer OpenAI holds back, the more demand grows for truly open, capable, and safe alternatives.

Instagram content becomes searchable on Google starting July 10

Meta has acquired voice AI startup Play AI, known for generating realistic, human-like voices. The entire Play AI team will join Meta next week, according to an internal memo confirmed by Bloomberg. Meta stated the startup’s work aligns well with its roadmap for AI Characters, Meta AI, wearables, and audio content creation. This move is part of Meta’s broader AI push, which includes hiring top talent from OpenAI and launching a superintelligence team led by Scale AI’s CEO.
