Hiring in 8 countries shouldn't require 8 different processes

This guide from Deel breaks down how to build one global hiring system. You’ll learn about assessment frameworks that scale, how to do headcount planning across regions, and even intake processes that work everywhere. As HR pros know, hiring in one country is hard enough. So let this free global hiring guide give you the tools you need to avoid global hiring headaches.

ChatGPT users are about to get hit with targeted ads

OpenAI has confirmed it will begin testing targeted ads inside ChatGPT for users on the Free and Go tiers in the US. Ads will appear at the bottom of conversations and be relevant to what the user is talking about. Users can dismiss ads, see why they are being shown, and turn off personalisation. Paid plans like Plus, Pro, Business, and Enterprise will remain ad-free. OpenAI says ads will not influence answers, will not use data from users under 18, and that user data will not be sold to advertisers. The company frames ads as a way to keep ChatGPT accessible while supporting its mission to benefit humanity. READ MORE

Here are 5 reasons why it matters:

  • It confirms ChatGPT is becoming a media platform: Once ads show up, ChatGPT stops being just a tool and starts behaving like a platform with attention, inventory, and monetisation. That changes how it is built, measured, and optimised.

  • Targeted ads mean conversations now have commercial value: Even with opt-outs, the fact that ads are tied to conversation topics signals a shift. What users talk about now directly connects to revenue.

  • This will push more users toward paid plans: Ads are likely intentional friction. If ChatGPT becomes essential to your work, paying to remove ads will feel like a productivity upgrade, not a luxury.

  • It sets a precedent for AI monetisation across the industry: Other AI products will watch this closely. If ads work without killing trust, expect similar models across copilots, agents, and AI assistants.

  • It raises long-term trust and independence questions: Even with promises of ā€œanswer independence,ā€ ads inside an AI assistant blur the line between neutral help and commercial influence. How this evolves will shape user trust in AI more broadly.

Musk wants up to $134B in OpenAI lawsuit, despite $700B fortune

Elon Musk is seeking between US$79 billion and US$134 billion in damages from OpenAI and Microsoft, claiming he was defrauded when OpenAI moved away from its original nonprofit mission. The claim is based on an expert valuation that argues Musk’s early US$38 million contribution in 2015, along with his technical and strategic input, entitles him to a significant share of OpenAI’s estimated US$500 billion valuation, with alleged wrongful gains calculated at up to US$109.4 billion for OpenAI and US$25.1 billion for Microsoft, which owns around 27% of the company. Despite the scale of the claim, Musk’s personal fortune is estimated at about US$700 billion, making the payout relatively insignificant to his overall wealth, a point that has reinforced OpenAI’s position that the lawsuit is less about financial loss and more about a broader pattern of harassment, as the case heads to trial in April in Oakland, California.
